Location: Suderbyn Ecovillage, Gotland, Sweden (no remote work allowed)
Starting date : Second half of March 2027
Expected arrival in the community : 1st of February 2027
Description:
Become a member of Suderbyn Ecovillage as coordinator of the infrastructure domain ! Alongside an assistant coordinator, lead a team of 5 to 8 volunteers (with varying range of experience) whose mission is to maintain, improve, and build infrastructures in Suderbyn. Work out with the team creative solutions to thrive toward an eco-friendly building philosophy (upcycling, use of natural materials).
The Infrastructure Coordinator works to ensure Suderbyn’s capacity to provide a meaningful learning experience for ESC (European Solidarity Corps) volunteers.
It also acts as an integral member of the community, being involved in structural, organisational and social aspects of Suderbyn.
As the NGO RELEARN Suderbyn is recruiting, its RELEARN Council has the ultimate employer responsibility.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Facilitating volunteer participation in the infrastructure work domain and creating a process-oriented and learning work environment.
- Holding regular meetings for domain coordination.
- Daily coordination of tasks running in parallel, showing residents and volunteers practical techniques required to complete their tasks, validating the job that’s done.
- Process facilitation for strategic and project planning, prioritization, and implementation of infrastructure-related projects.
- Overall communication with the other domain coordinators.
- Holding mutual feedback sessions with volunteers.
- Attending staff coordination meetings.
- Ensuring that volunteers receive tool safety training and that safety protocols are followed.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Living in Suderbyn and participating in its activities and contributing to essential tasks shared by all residents and volunteers
- Practical skills such as woodwork/carpentry, metal work/welding, plumbing, electrical work/machine repair, car repair, bicycle repairs, and natural building.
Degrees or expertise are not needed, but each of these skills are an asset. - Curiosity for building/tinkering/fixing
- Pedagogical competence / enthusiasm for teaching (formally and/or informally)
- Team leading skills, proactive and responsible attitude.
- Ability to work in an English-speaking environment.
- Having a driver’s license (B) is an asset.
- Familiarity with power tools of construction or earth-work machinery is an asset.
